(Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational Results: MEN/WOMEN)
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men finished in the top third, the women in the top half, at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational held Saturday at Genesee Valley Park.
Tom Williams (Queensbury), a junior, resumed his leadership among the men. Finishing sixth overall in 25:24 for 8,000 meters, Williams was the first NCAA Division III finisher. There were 196 finishers in the men's race.
Rounding out Fredonia State's Top 5 were senior Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) in 18th place overall with a time of 25:59, sophomore Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore) in 29th (26:17), sophomore Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in 47th (26:56), and sophomore Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in 49th (26:58).
The Blue Devils were fifth in team scoring out of 15 full teams. There were 196 finishers in the men's race.
On the women's side, senior Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore) was No. 1 for her team with a time of 20:11 for 5,000 meters. She was 50th overall, two spots ahead of junior teammate Jessica Bennett (Rochester/West Irondequoit), who ran 20:15. The next three Blue Devils were senior Laura Morroni (Elmira Heights/Edison), 66th in 20:37; freshman Katie Krueger (Jamestown), 74th in 20:58; and freshman Shannon Gowen (Clarence), 92nd in 21:35.
The women were eighth out of 16 teams. There were 183 finishers.
Both teams are idle until the SUNYAC championship meet Nov. 1 at Letchworth State Park.
