CORTLAND, N.Y.  -- Led by three all-conference finishers, the Fredonia State men were third out of nine teams at the SUNYAC men's and women's cross country championships at SUNY Cortland.

The Blue Devils earned 79 points, outperformed only by Geneseo and Cortland. Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore), Tom Williams (Queensbury), and Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) made All-SUNYAC Second Team by virtue of their placement at the meet.

Novara, a junior, was first for the Blue Devils and 10th overall in 26:12 for 8,000 meters. Williams, a senior, and Guarino, a junior, were 12th and 13th, respectively, separated by one second. Williams crossed in 26:19, Guarino in 26:20.

The top 15 finishers make the All-SUNYAC Team.

Completing Fredonia State's top five were Guarino's twin brother, Josh, who was 19th in 26:37, and junior David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia), 29th overall in 27:11.

"I expected us to finish third," Blue Devil head coach Jeff Beck said. "But I thought our guys could have run better."

The Blue Devils were 35 points behind second-place Cortland, the defending NCAA Division III champs, and 50 points ahead of fourth-place Oneonta.

The Fredonia State women weren't as fortunate. They were ninth in the nine-team field. The team's top finisher was freshman Nicole Bochman (Jamestown), 24th overall in 24:52 for 6,000 meters.

Next up for the Blue Devils are the Atlantic Regional races Nov. 14 at Letchworth State Park.
