FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Seven women and seven men will represent Fredonia State at the NCAA Atlantic Regional cross country championship meet Saturday at St. Lawrence University.
The Blue Devil men have been led all season by junior Tom Williams (Queensbury), who when on form can stay with the top performers in the region. Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore), a sophomore, has been the Blue Devils' No. 2 runner most of the season, followed by Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home), sophomore twin brothers Josh and Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen), sophomore Matt Kepler (Valley Cottage/Nyack), and sophomore Mac McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia).
"The training and fitness is there," head coach Jeff Beck said. "All these guys have to do now is go out and race."
The 8,000-meter race starts at 11 a.m.
The women have been improving with almost every race, led by senior Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore). Right behind has been the pack of junior Jessica Bennett (Rochester/West Irondequoit), senior Laura Morroni (Elmira Heights/Edison), and freshman Katie Krueger (Jamestown). If freshman Shannon Gowen (Clarence) continues to improve, the eam would surprise other teams in the region. Rounding out the top seven will be sophomore Hailey Guard (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) and senior Danielle White (Pavilion).
The starting time for the 6,000-meter race is noon.
