Cross country

(Race Results -- MEN/WOMEN)

CANTON, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men finished eighth in the team standings at the NCAA Atlantic Regional cross country meet at St. Lawrence University.

Tom Williams (Queensbury), a junior, finished 18th overall with a time of 26:23 for 8,000 meters over the Ronald C. Hoffman Cross Country course.

Williams was followed by four sophomores, Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore) in 54th place (27:17); Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in 62nd (27:27); Matt Kepler (Valley Cottage/Nyack) in 71st (27:33); and Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in 73rd (27:36). Also competing for the Blue Devils were senior Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) and sophomore Mac McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia).

In the women's 6,000-meter race, junior Jessica Bennett (Rochester/West Irondequoit) was the first Fredonia State finisher -- 59th in 25:06. The next four were senior Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore) in 71st (25:21); freshman Katie Krueger (Jamestown) in 101st (26:05); freshman Shannon Gowen (Clarence) in 108th (26:19); and senior Laura Morroni (Elmira Heights/Edison) in 118th (26:33). In addition, sophomore Hailey Guard (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) and senior Danielle White (Pavilion) ran for the Blue Devils.
