FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State cross country begins the season with first year head coach Jeff Beck.
The men’s team will once again be led by junior Tom Williams (Queensbury) and senior Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home). Seniors Joe Vella (Hamburg) and Tim Halter (Amherest/Sweet Home)will look to fill the gap left by 2008 graduate Andy Forma.
Last year’s strong freshman class has returned to Fredonia State ready to drop their times. The sophomore class returns four runners who participated in the NCAA Atlantic Regional in Andy Dunscombe (Endicott/Union-Endicott), Mac McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia), and twins Josh Guarino and Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen). Fellow sophomore Matt Kepler (Valley Cottage/Nyack), injured last year, looks to join the lead group along with transfer student Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore).
Returners Matt Slight (Oswego) and Nick Corigliano (Buffalo/Kenmore West), along with freshman Steve Paternostro (Angola/Lake Shore), are also looking for a strong showing this year.
On the women’s side, top returner Jess Bennett (Rochester/West Irondequoit), a junior who finished one spot out of the national championship meet last year, is joined by transfer student Sarah Furman (West Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo). Freshman Jessica Stevenson (Mahopac) looks to join the strong core group of Hailey Guard (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter), Laura Morroni (Elmira Heights/Edison), and Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore).
