(WOMEN'S RESULTS/MEN'S RESULTS)

PORTLAND, N.Y. -- With four runners in the top five, the Fredonia State men won the Blue Devil Invitational Saturday at Lake Erie State Park.

Team scores were 19 for the Blue Devils, 40 for Brockport, and 85 for Alfred University.

Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore) was first across the finish line with a time of 25:59 for five miles, followed by Nick Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in second place (26:16), Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) in fourth (26:36), who edged out teammate Tom Williams (Queensbury) with a lean at the end.

Brian Gallagher (Queensbury) was the Blue Devils' No. 5 runner, eighth overall, in 27:05. He was followed by David "Mac" McMahill (Hemlock/Livonia) in ninth (27:!9), and Matt Kepler (Valley Cottage/Nyack) in 12th (27:42).

In the women's race, Brockport scored a perfect 15 points, Alfred was second with 49, and the Blue Devils were third with 90 points.

Nichole Bochman (Jamestown) was Fredonia State's first finisher, and seventh overall, in 20:06 for 5,000 meters. Ashley Cocuzzi (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) was 23rd (21:47), Katie Krueger (Jamestown) was 26th (22:09), Shannon Gowen (Clarence) was 27th (22:11), and Kate Brett (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) 29th (22:27) to round out the Blue Devils' top five.

A team of Fredonia State women's basketball players ran in the race, while Nicole Calbi (Olean) finishing 19th overall in 21:29.
