(MEN'S RESULTS/WOMEN'S RESULTS)
PORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State cross country teams defeated two other schools Saturday at the lone home meet of the season, the 2008 Fredonia State Invitational, at Lake Erie State Park.
The Blue Devil men, led by junior Tom Williams (Queensbury), scored a perfect 15 points. Alfred was second with 50 points, and D'Youville was third with 85.
Williams was the race winner with a time of 26:22 for 8,000 meters. Two unattached runners took the next two spots, followed by Blue Devil senior Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home), sophomore Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen), senior Tim Halter (Amherst/Sweet Home), and sophomore Matt Kepler (Valley Cottage/Nyack).
In the women's 5,000-meter race, Alfred's Megan Crimmins was the first collegian to cross the finish line in a time of 20:45. Fredonia State junior Sarah Furman (West Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) was first for her team -- second in the scored race -- in 21:03. Rounding out the Blue Devil Top 5 were senior Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore), freshman Katie Krueger (Jamestown), senior Laura Morroni (Elmira Heights/Edison), and junior Jessica Bennett (Rochester/West Irondequout).
The Blue Devil women recorded 24 points, Alfred 31 points, and D'Youville 80.
