Sophomore catcher Rob Herrmann (Trumansburg) will play in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, which is a Major League Baseball sanctioned league. Junior lefthanded pitcher Ricky Carlson (Frewsburg) will play in the Western Major Baseball League. Herrmann, an all conference catcher as a freshman, will play for the Allegany Nitros in Wellsville. The Nitros have produced 24 players that have entered professional baseball since 1998, including several major leaguers. Jeremy Accardo (2002), the most recent Nitro to make the Majors, pitched for the San Francisco Giants this past season. Herrmann batted .306 overall. He posted a .370 average in SUNYAC-only play with 11 RBI in 10 games. He is the second Blue Devil in recent memory to suit up in the NYCBL. Current Blue Devil assistant Kyle Adams played for the Geneva Red Legs in the summer of 2005. Carlson will play for the Weyburn Beavers, based in Saskatchewan, Canada. In his first season at Fredonia State, Carlson led the Blue Devils in ERA at 3.30. In conference play, he was used in seven games, posting an ERA of 1.17, second in the SUNYAC. He threw mostly in relief. In his only start, he threw a complete-game shutout. Last season, fellow lefthanded pitcher Matt Bauman was one of the league's top pitchers, and was named to the WMBL All Star team. Bauman posted a 1.90 ERA in 23 games, ranking second league.
