In the season opener, Waynesburg's starting pitcher Brendon Lavrusky stalled the Devil offense with four hits en route to a 6-0 victory. Fredonia State's Matt Bauman absorbed the loss, yielding one earned run in five innings of work. He was let down by four errors by his defense. The Devil bats came alive in the nightcap, with 10 hits. Jordan Basile led the team with three hits, while Kevin Malaney added a pair of safeties. However, four more errors led to four unearned runs as Waynesburg won, 9-8. On Sunday, the Devil bats continued to stay hot despite the chilly weather. The Devils pounded out 16 hits in the 10-9 victory. Malaney had three hits, while five other Devils recorded a pair of safeties. Every Devil starter had at least one hit. Malaney and Don Kirsch had two RBI apiece. The team will depart for its spring trip to Florida on Wednesday. They open with a pair of games vs. Salve Regina in the nine-game southern swing.
