Down 4-0 after the first inning, the Blue Devils (4-8) cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the third on a single by Mike Austin (Buffalo/City Honors) and a two-run homer by Tommy Adams (Naples/Naples). A double by Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) and consecutive fly-outs resulted in the third Blue Devil run, it coming in the top of the fourth. Bryan Recchia (Webster/Webster Schroeder) was credited with a sacrifice fly and an RBI. In the second game, the Blue Devils were limited to five hits, two by Kevin Malaney (Amherst/Amherst). He was 4 of 6 in the doubleheader and raised his batting average to .435, tops among the Blue Devil regulars. Both Blue Devil starting pitchers were saddled with losses, Joe Webster (East Aurora/Iroquois) in the first game and Ricky Carlson (Frewsburg/Frewsburg) in the nightcap. The Blue Devils open their home season 3 p.m. Wednesday with a single game vs. D'Youville College.
