A four-run second inning supported strong pitching in a 6-4 win in the opener. Colby bounced back to down the Blue Devils (3-10) in the getaway game, 9-3. Sophomore right-hander Jeremy Clark (Newfield/Newfield) picked up the win in the first game. He allowed three runs -- two earned -- over four innings with one strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore left-hander Matt Bauman (Alden/St. Francis) allowed one run over the final three innings to earn the save. Like Clark, Bauman did not walk a batter. The Blue Devils took command in the second inning. Junior Kyle Adams (Naples/Naples) got things going with a lead-off single. Junior Phil Gavin (Rocheseter/Greece Olympia) then delivered an RBI double, his first of two hits in the game. That was followed by a single by freshman Pete Lusk (Albion/Albion), who also finished with two hits. After a throwing error scored Gavin, freshman Sam Tuzzeo (Irondequoit/Irondequoit) made it 3-0, Devils, with an RBI double. Junior Mike Austin (Buffalo/City Honors) brought home Tuzzeo with an RBI single. The Blue Devils added insurance runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Austin, and in the seventh on a single by Gavin. The hitting wasn't on par in Game 2, in which junior Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) was tagged with the pitching loss. Three hits and an RBI by sophomore Ryan Sweda (South Dayton/Pine Valley) was the top offensive performance. Friday is a travel day for the Blue Devils before they begin SUNYAC play with a doubleheader Saturday at Oswego. The home opener is Sunday, the first game of a doubleheader (noon start) vs. Brockport at Ludwig Field.
