Freshman Pete Lusk drove home the winning run with a bases-loaded single with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Devils the sweep. Fredonia State led 7-4 heading into the final frame. The Hawks rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 7-all. Kyle Adams led off the bottom of the inning with a double to right center field. Phil Gavin was credited with an infield hit after bunting Adams to third. An intentional walk to Dan Taurisani loaded the bases. Lusk, pinch-hitting for Dan Mullen, stepped to the plate and lined an 0-1 pitch into center to bring home the winning run. Freshman Tom Hausler threw six strong innings, yielding five runs. Matt Bauman relieved him with two runners aboard in the seventh, and was credited with the win. New Paltz was led by Robert Helf and Tyler Antrim with two hits apice. Tristan Greene suffered the loss, going 3 2/3 innings of relief, surrendering three runs on six hits. In the opener, the Devils broke open a five-all game with a five-run fourth inning. Bryan Recchia supplied the big blow, with a two-run double. Sophomore hurler Noah Huard took over in the top of the fifth, and dominated the New Paltz hitters the rest of the way. Huard allowed no hits and struck out a career-high 11 batters over five innings, improving his record to 1-1 this season. Jim Kunkemoeller drilled three doubles, drove in three runs and scored four times returning to the line-up after missing two weeks with a leg injury. Trey Johnson and Recchia also collected three hits. Dan Garcia had two of the six New Paltz hits. Jeff Stith suffered the loss. He was touched up for 10 runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. The Devils improve to 5-12 overall, and 2-2 in the SUNYAC. They will take on Oneonta Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field. New Paltz is now 13-13 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
