Devils swept at home by Oneonta

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball was swept by Oneonta by scores of 6-4 and 7-1 on Sunday afternoon.

In game one Fredonia State Jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Bryan Recchia, Jim Kunkemoeller Kyle Adams and Phil Gavin each collected a hit in the frame to account for the runs.

Oneonta made it 3-2 when Jake Wasielewski hit a sacrifice fly to scoring Chris Brew in the third inning. Two more runs in the fifth gave the Red Dragons a 4-3 lead. Thomas Colt ripped an RBI triple and scored on a Mike Kuratnick single.

The Devils fought back and tied it in the bottom of the eighth on a Kunkemoeller single, plating Recchia.

Oneonta would reclaim the lead in the top of the ninth. Singles by Chris Salamida and Ryan Myers, followed by an error on the Fredonia State third baseman scored the first run. An errant throw on a double-play ball accounted for the second run.

The Blue Devil's had eight hits including two each from Jim Kunkemoeller and Brandon Phillips. Matt Bauman suffered the loss in relief, going two innings and giving up one earned run.

Craig Bellinger was credited with the win in three innings of work. Don Lawrence earned the save pitching a perfect ninth. Brew, Myers and Salamida each had two hits for Oneonta.

In the nightcap, Fredonia State collected seven hits in the 7-1 loss. Kunkemoeller was three for three including a double. Jeremy Clark took the loss on the mound for Fredonia State going six innings.

Salamida was four for four, pacing Oneonta's 12-hit attack. Wasielewski cracked a homerun in the first inning. Steve Juedes went the distance, giving up one run while striking out three.

The Devils now 5-14 overall, and 2-4 in the conference, are home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. versus Hilbert College.
