Andrew Van Slyke (Rome) had two singles and drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to cap a two-run seventh inning for the visiting Cardinals (11-5). Chad King (Plainsville) tripled, singles, and scored twice in support of junior right-hander Greg McKeown (Avon). For the Blue Devils (7-14), aa three-run second inning game the hosts an early lead. Senior Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) and junior Dan Murphy (Eden/Eden) each had a hit during the inning and two hits each in the game. Junior Kevin Malaney (Buffalo/City Honors) had a double for his team's only extra-base hit. Sophomore lefthander Ricky Carlson (Frewsburg/Frewsburg) was the losing pitcher in relief of starter Joe Webster (East Aurora/Iroquois), a senior righthander. In the nightcap, freshman Dan Jurik (Vestal) pitched the first five innings and junior Justin Lutes (Trumansburg) worked the final two and together they combined on a three-hit shutout. Jeff Fetzner (Rochester) had two singles to lead the Cardinal offense. Senior Kyle Adams (Naples/Naples) had a pair of singles for the Blue Devils, who are back in action Saturday in a SUNYAC doubleheader at New Paltz.
