The Devil's won the opener, 6-4, and took the nightcap, 12-8. Down 4-1 after four innings, the Devils staged their comeback in game one. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, consecutive singles by Jordan Basile, Dan Murphy and Jim Kunkemoeller cut the deficit to 4-2. The Devils added a run in the sixth to make it 4-3 when Jarrod Surine plated Rob Herrmann with a base hit. Two runs in the seventh gave the Devils the lead for good. With the bases loaded, Murphy scored the tieing run on a wild pitch. Don Kirsch singled to plate Jim Kunkemoeller with the go-ahead run, making it 5-4 Devils. The Devils would add insurance in the eighth as Basile would score the game's final run on another wild pitch. Ricky Carlson went the distance on the mound for the Devils. After surrendering three runs in the second and another in the fourth, he would shut down New Paltz the rest of the way. He would yield only three hits over the game's final five innings. For the game, he would allow ten hits, striking out six and walking none. Jon Shanks took the loss for New Paltz. The Devils were led offensively by Basile and Murphy, with three hits apiece. Kunkemoeller had a pair of RBI. The Devils had 13 hits as a team. For New Paltz, Tyler Terlecky had three hits, and Zach Potter had two hits and two RBI. Game two saw New Paltz jump out to a 5-1 lead through two innings, chasing Blue Devil starter Matt Bauman. New Paltz would tack on two more in the third off reliever Tom Hausler to make it 7-1. Kevin Paino would have three hits in the first three innings for the Hawks. The Devil bats then went to work. A six-run fourth would tie the game at 7-all. A bases-loaded double by Murphy would account for the first three runs. Kunkemoeller then singled. Following a strikeout, Herrmann doubled home Kunkemoeller. A walk to Kirsch loaded the bases again. Pete Lusk would come through with a two-run single. The Devils would plate four more runs in the fifth inning. Kirsch and Lusk each rapped run-scoring doubles to highlight the inning. Taylor Gahagen added an RBI single in the sixth to give Fredonia State its 12th run of the game. On the mound, Hausler would complete the final five innings for his third win of the season. He allowed three runs over the final five innings striking out three and walking one. Jeff Stith took the loss for New Paltz. Basile and Kunkemoeller highlighted the Devil attack, with three hits apiece. The Devils added 15 more hits as a team. The Devils advanced their record to 10-12, and 4-2 in the conference. They are also 5-0 at home. New Paltz evens its record at 14-14. They are 3-5 in SUNYAC play. The Devils return to action on Ludwig Field with a doubleheader vs. Pitt-Bradford Wednesday at 2 p.m.
