The Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Two Storm errors and doubles by Dan Murphy and Rob Herrmann led to a pair of the runs. Don Kirsch capped the scoring with an RBI single. The teams traded a pair of runs in the second to make it 4-1 Devils. Lake Erie pulled to within a run, 4-3, in the top of the fifth. With one out, Brandon James reached first on an error, followed a walk to Dan Dowdell. Harry Konrad drove them both in with a two-out single. The Devils responded with five runs in their half of the inning. Josh Greco provided the big blow, with a bases-loaded, two-run single. Lake Erie tacked on a run in the sixth with a Mario Lombardo solo home run. The Devils tacked on two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to give the 12-4 final. Kevin Malaney had four hits for the Devils. Jordan Basile drove in three runs. Murphy, Greco and Jarod Surine each had two hits as the Devils collected 16 hits. On a day that saw both team prepare for a busy conference weekend -- The Devils have four SUNYAC games on Saturday and Sunday, and Lake Erie has four AMCC games this week -- Fredonia State used five pitchers and Lake Erie used eight, with no pitcher throwing more than two innings. Starter Tom Hausler, who was scheduled to pitch only the first inning, was credited with the win. The Devils, now 5-8, play host to Hilbert for a non-conference doubleheader on Friday at Ludwig Field. They will wrap up the homestand and open SUNYAC play on Saturday vs. Brockport.
