Devils come up short on Senior Day

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Devils managed only a pair of run in each game as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 5-2 and 4-2, to Penn State Behrend on Wednesday.

The Devils scored first in Game 1 on a Taylor Gahagen two-run home run in the bottom of the second. It was his second of the season. Behrend would tie the game as Adam Martin connected for a two-run blast in the top of the third.

Devil starting pitcher Andy Dlugosz held the Lion bats in check through the fifth. Reliever Tom Haulser entered the game in the sixth and gave up the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly. The Lions would tack on two more in the seventh to give the 5-2 final.

Rob Herrmann led the Devils with two hits. Martin had three hits for Behrend.

Dlugosz tossed five solid innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking none and striking out one. Blake Pavlik earned the win with six innings of work. Ben Cain worked the seventh for his fourth save of the season.

The Devils scored first again in Game 2. Herrmann drove in the first run with a double. He would score on a Jim Kunkemoeller single.

Behrend scored a run in the third and two in the fourth to take the lead for good. They would tack on an insurance run in the seventh.

Senior Jeremy Hulbert went the distance for Fredonia State, scattering seven hits and giving up three earned runs. Ryan Smith earned the win for Behrend, going 4 2/3 innings, giving up both runs. Cain earned his second save of the day working the final 2 1/3 innings.

Herrmann added three more hits in the game for a total of five on the day. Brian Bongiovanni added a pair of hits. Tom Pasinski had three hits for Behrend.

The Devils wrap up the season with a 15-23 ledger. Behrend, the regular-season AMCC Champions, moves to 30-9 on the season.
