Johnson, Malaney head All-SUNYAC selections

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Senior center fielder Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) and junior second baseman Kevin Malaney (Amherst) head of list of six Fredonia State players chosen to the 2007 SUNYAC All-Conference team.

Johnson and Malaney have been chosen to the 2007 First Team in a vote of conference coaches. Second Team selections are sophomore third baseman Dan Taurisani (Utica/Proctor), sophomore shortstop John Hamilton (Frewsburg), senior outfielder Phil Gavin (Rochester/Greece Olympia), and freshman catcher Rob Hermann (Trumansburg/Trumansburg).

Johnson led the team with a .444 batting average with 19 RBI in 28 games. He closed out his collegiate career on a 12-game hitting streak, batting .532 (25 of 47) during the streak. He also led the team with 11 stolen bases and had 46 defensive chances without an error.

Malaney appeared in 32 games and batted .390 with team-highs in hits (39), doubles (8), triples (3), homers (4), and RBI (27). At one point in the season, he had a 10-game hitting streak.

Taurasani was tops among the Blue Devil Second Teamers with a .333 batting average in 25 games, while Hamilton batted .312, Hermann .306, and Gavin .277.
