FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEBaseballLions sweep DevilsErie, P.A. – Penn State Behrend used an 11-run first inning in game two to power their way to sweep of the Blue Devils. Behrend started the game with three consecuive hits off starting pitcher Tim Lockhart (Youngstown/Lew-Port). The Lions would touch him up for 10 runs before giving way to reliever David Tubbs (Forestville/Forestville) with two outs. The Lions would go on to take a 14-6 victory. Fredonia was led offensively by Lockhart, who collected a pair of hits, including a three-run double. Behrend took the opener 5-1 as Matt Szymanski would take a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Richie Bartkowiak (Fredonia) would break up the no-hit bid with a double to right field. Fredonia State's lone run would come on back-to-back walks to Scott Herdzik (Dunkirk) and Lockhart, followed by back-to-back wild pitches to score Herdzik in the sixth. The Lions scored four runs in the first off Herdzik, who was the strating pitcher for game one. He would settle in and allow only one run the rest of the way to give the final.
