Fast start powers Pitt-Bradford past Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Five first-inning runs gave Pitt-Bradford a lead they would never relinquish in a 15-6 victory over Fredonia State.

The first five batters reached base and scored off Blue Devil starting pitcher Craig Heath (Watkins Glen/Watkins Glen). The Panthers (16-11) added two more runs in the second and three in the third to go up 10-0.

Fredonia State broke through for two runs in the fifth inning. Bryan Recchia (Webster/Webster Schroeder) reached base on a two-out walk. Mike Austin (Buffalo/City Honors) hit an infield single. An errant throw to first allowed both Recchia and Austin to circle the bases.

The Blue Devils (6-25) scored three more in the sixth as Kyle Irving (Sanborn/Niagara Wheatfield) drove home a run with a single. Recchia followed with a two-run double.

Recchia, Irving and Austin led the Blue Devils with two hits each.

The Blue Devils will wrap up their season with a doubleheader at noon Saturday vs. SUNYIT on Ludwig Field.
