Devils pull rank on No. 13 Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – In the nightcap of the Devils' conference opener, Bobby Edwards (Silver Creek/Silver Creek) threw a complete-game gem, downing the No. 13 Brockport Eagles, 4-3.

Edwards allowed one earned run, five hits, and struck out two to get the win.

On offense, Phil Gavin (Rochester/Greece Olympia) led the way with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Senior Donny Burch (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) homered for Fredonia State, his second of the day. Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley), Kyle Adams (Naples/Naples), John Papierski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk), and Matt Baudo (Buffalo/St. Joe's) also collected one hit apiece.

For the Eagles, Ryan Mohr took the loss. He pitched five innings allowed three earned runs, and struck out three.

In the first game, walks and hit batters did in the Blue Devil pitchers, as they lost 17-3. In total, Devil pitchers walked eight batters and hit six. Craig Heath (Watkins Glen/Watkins Glen) took the loss. Burch hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Mike Austin (Buffalo/City Honors) added a double.

The Blue Devils are back in action Sat., April 9, as they travel to Cortland to take on No. 14 ranked Red Dragons.
