FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEBaseballBig inning leads to split at FisherROCHESTER, N.Y. – Fredonia State gained a split of a non-conference doubleheader Saturday with St. John Fisher. After dropping a 6-1 decision in the first game, the Blue Devils (8-27) bounced back for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap. In the second game, the Blue Devils scored all their runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Donny Burch (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) got two innings of relief help from Kyle Adams (Naples/Naples) to earn the win. The six-run inning began with back-to-back doubles by Scott Herdzik (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) and Tim Lockhart (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter). Brandon Miller (Ripley/Ripley) and Adam Fusco (Restof/York) had RBI singles, Rich Bartkowiak (Fredonia/Fredonia) an RBI groundout, and Bret McCabe (Buffalo/St. Francis) a two-run single in the inning. Jared Ochs (Waterloo/Waterloo) had the lone RBI during the 6-1 loss in the first game. The Blue Devils continued their road trip in order to play a doubleheader Sunday at Plattsburgh.
