Game one went ten innings as Medaille prevailed 2-1. Game two was all Fredonia, as they scored 10 runs in the first, en route to a 19-7 victory. Fredonia State freshman Jeremy Clark (Newfield/Newfield) pitched eight solid innings, allowing only one run, a two-out single off the bat of Medaille's Derek Nero. Fredonia tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Donny Burch (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) reached first to lead off the inning on an error on the shortstop. A walk to Phil Gavin (Rochester/Greece-Olympia) brought Adam Bianchi (Rochester/Greece-Olympia) to the plate with nobody out. Bianchi delivered a single to plate Burch. After a strike out and failed bunt attempt, the inning ended as Bianchi was thrown out at home following a Mike Austin (Buffalo/City Honors) single to center. Medaille won the game in the bottom of the tenth. A one-out walk followed by back-to-back singles plated the game-winner off reliever Joe Webster (Elma/Iroquois). Kyle Irving (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) accounted for two of Fredonia's six hits. Don Jablonski earned the win with four innings of scoreless relief. Game two was a different story. The Blue Devils scored 10 run in the top of the first, capped off by a John Papierski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) two-run single. Fredonia starting pitcher Sean Pendergast (Cheektowaga/JFK) was the beneficiary of the run support, but struggled through three innings. He would leave with a 13-7 lead. Matt Bauman (Elma/St. Francis) came in to claim the win. He pitched the final four innings, allowing only one hit and one walk, while striking out four. Papierski would finish the game with five hits, five runs and five RBI, giving him six hits on the day. Dan Mullen (Port Ewen/Kingston) also had a perfect game at the plate, going four for four with four runs scored. Burch and Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) collected two hits. Gavin drove in a career-high four runs. Steve Grieco topped Medaille with three safties in the contest. The Mavericks used six different pitchers, with starter Andy Suppes suffering the loss after giving up four runs in 1/3 of an inning's work. Medaille now stands at 11-20-1. Fredonia is 6-24. They are scheduled to play LaRoche College and SUNYIT at home on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
