Senior knuckleballer Mike Munski (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) had allowed three runs on six hits before the fateful eighth inning, which saw the Red Dragons (23-4-1, 10-0) break open a game that had the potential of being a major upset. Adam Bianchi (Rochester/Greece Olympia) had an RBI single in the second inning and Trey Johnson (Gerry/Cassadaga Valley) connected for a two-run double in the fifth inning to account for the Blue Devil runs. Johnson's hit put Fredonia State up 3-1 at the time. In Game Two, Oneonta cruised to a 9-2 victory against a parade of Blue Devil pitchers. Head coach Matt Palisin trotted out six pitchers for stints of no longer than two innings each. Sean Pendergast (Cheektowaga/JFK) pitched two scoreless innings to show the way. Jeremy Clark (Newfield/Newfield), Matt Bauman (Alden/St. Francis), and Joe Webster (East Aurora/Iroquois) also did scoreless work. Offensively, John Papierski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) and Bob Edwards (Silver Creek/Silver Creek) had two hits each. A single by Papierski, an RBI double by Edwards, and an RBI single by Donny Burch (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) in the seventh inning accounted for both Fredonia State runs. The Blue Devils (3-21, 2-8) return to action April 21 at home against Penn State Behrend. Athletics Home | Fredonia Home
