Devils split with Oswego

FREDONIA, N.Y.Bobby Edwards (Silver Creek/Silver Creek) went the distance on the mound for the fourth time in four starts this spring in leading the Fredonia State Blue Devils to a game one 11-10 win. Edwards threw 185 pitches giving up six earned runs, striking out three and walking three.

Tied 10-all in the bottom of the eighth, Matt Baudo (Buffalo/St. Joe's) walked and Phil Gavin (Rochester/Greece Olympia) doubled to put the Devils up. Edwards slammed the door in the ninth to preserve the win.

Senior Donny Burch (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford), John Papierski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) and Gavin each went 3-for-4 for Fredonia. Chris Raudnael went 2-for-2 and reached base five times for Oswego.

Oswego ace Mike Cortellini was the story of game two as the left-hander threw a complete game earning a 7-2 win. He scattered six hits striking out 12 and walking four.

Matt Kimpland and Tom Farrell each laced three hits in four trips to the plate for the Lakers.

Craig Heath absorbed the loss. He surrendered seven runs, five earned in six innings of work.

The Blue Devils are now 2-8 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC. Oswego is 8-7 (2-4). The Devils return to Ludwig Field on Wednesday with a 2:00 doubleheader versus St. John Fisher.
