FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEBaseballFisher hooks two winsFREDONIA, N.Y. – St. John Fisher swept a pair of games from the Fredonia State Blue Devils on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals (12-7) claimed the opener 19-5 and took the nightcap 9-5. Fisher took control of the first game with seven first-inning runs, highlighted by an Andy Campbell (Fayetteville Manlius/Manlius) homerun. Four more runs in the second would chase Fredonia starter Donny Burch (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) from the game. Matt Baudo (Buffalo/St. Joe's), Phil Gavin (Rochester/Greece Olympia) and Kyle Adams (Naples/Naples) each had two hits for Fredonia. Chris Botsford (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) and Nick Bergman (Grand Island/Grand Island) paced Fisher's 21-hit attack with three hits apiece. Evan Shaffer also homered for Fisher. Bryan Rodman (Palmyra-Macedon/Palmyra) earned his first college win on the mound. The Devils took the early lead in game two, with back-to-back first inning doubles by Adams and John Papierski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk). Adams would key a three-run second with a two-run single to give the Devils a 4-0 lead. Fisher fought back in the fourth with seven runs, three of which scored after a two out error. They woud hold on for the 9-5 win. Adams and Papierski again paced the Blue Devil attack, lacing three hits in the nightcap, giving them each five hits on the day. The Blue Devils are now 2-10 overall. They will travel to New Paltz this weekend where they will have a key SUNYAC series with New Paltz and Oneonta. Athletics Home | Fredonia Home
