Herdzik, McCabe named All-SUNYAC

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Senior Bret McCabe (Buffalo/St. Francis) wrapped up his four-year career at Fredonia State by earning all-conference recognition. Sophomore Scott Herdzik (Dunkirk) was also named to the post-season squad.

The All SUNYAC team was selected on Monday, May 3.

McCabe, who was selected as a second-team outfielder, batted .286 in conference play, and .284 overall. He lead the Blue Devils in homeruns (3) and collected 5 doubles and 14 RBI while batting second. McCabe was also the team's opening-day starting pitcher the past two seasons.

Herdzik earned second-team status at shortstop. He batted .286 in conference play, and .343 overall. He lead the team with 36 hits and 11 extra-base hits -- 6 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homeruns. He also stole seven bases in eight attempts.

Senior Tim Lockhart (Youngstown/Lewiston Porter) also closed out a record-setting career this past season. A first-team selection as a DH in 2003, Lockhart played right field this past season. He finishes ranked among the Devils all-time leaders in batting average (15th, .302), hits (5th, 98), and doubles (sixth, 22).

David Tubbs (Forestville), Richie Bartkowiak (Fredonia) and Adam Fusco (Retsof/York) also closed out their careers. Tubbs finished as the Blue Devils all-time leader in pitching appearances with 39.
