Devils fall short
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State amassed 50 shots on goal and scored with just over a minute to go in the game, but could not rally for the tie, falling to Geneseo 4-3 in front of a capacity crowd at Steele Hall.
The Devils outshot Geneseo 50-25 for the game.
After a scoreless first period, Geneseo's Mathieu Cyr opened the scoring on a power-play at 5:40 of the second period.
Pat Capella would answer at 11:07 for the Devils with a short-handed score. Cyr countered with his second score just over a minute later.
Geneseo would take a 3-1 lead at the 18:00 mark when Dan Brown scored his first of two goals on the night.
The Devils made it a 3-2 game with Colin Sarfeh's sixth goal of the season on a power-play at 18:46.
The teams traded goals in the third period. Brown's second score came at 11:18 to make it 4-2 Geneseo.
Steve Albert brought the Devils back to within a goal, scoring at 18:08. Fredonia State could not find the net the rest of the way to give the 4-3 final.
In addition to Cyr and Brown's two scores, Geneseo's Dan Sullivan was credited with a pair of assists.
Derek Jokic had 47 saves in goal for Geneseo. The Devils' started Kevin Amborski in goal. He had 20 saves while yielding all four goals. Pat Street logged 5:53 in net time, stopping the only shot he faced.
The loss puts the Devils a 10-7-3 on the season, and 6-3-2 in conference play. Geneseo moves to 6-13-0 overall and 5-6-0 in the SUNYAC.
Next weekend, the Devils make the trek to the North Country, facing Potsdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday.
