New England sweep: Devils down Wentworth
BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior forward Scott Bradley (Belleville, Ont.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist, while freshman netminder Pat Street (Annapolis, Md.) turned aside 41 of the 42 shots he faced as Fredonia State (7-5-3) completed a sweep of its two-game New England swing with a 4-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology (6-5-2) in a non-league game played at Matthews Arena.
The Blue Devils -- 9-3 winners Friday at Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I. -- tallied the first three goals. They broke a scoreless tie at the 9:40 mark of the opening period when senior forward Joe Muli (Sioux Lookout, Ont.) scored after a feed from sophomore defenseman Colin Sarfeh (Laguna Nigel, Calif.). Despite holding a 23-15 shot advantage, Fredonia could only muster one goal in the first 20:00 of play.
Bradley tallied his first of the night when he was set up by senior forward Kraig Kuzma (Muskegon, Mich.) and freshman defenseman Matt Pfalzer (Getzville, N.Y.) with 3:27 left in the second period. Bradley and Kuzma would assist on senior forward Kyle Bozoian’s (St. Charles, Mo.) goal a minute into the third period, which gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead.
Wentworth, which had been idle since Dec. 10, netted its only goal of the game when freshman forward Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alberta) tapped home a rebound of a classmate Martin Winzer (Nuremberg, Germany) shot at the 8:18 mark. Bradley rounded out the scoring with his second of the game at 11:15.
Street made 26 of his 41 saves over the final 40:00 to improve to 4-5-3 on the season. Freshman Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 42 saves on 46 shots. The two teams combined for 88 shots on goal.
