Devils defeat No. 13 Utica, 4-2
UTICA, N.Y. -- Junior forward Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) had two goals and one assist to lead Fredonia State to a 4-2 win over No. 13 ranked Utica College.
Named SUNYAC Player of the Week on Monday, Sheehan continued his recent hot streak first with an assist on a goal by junior Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.) at 8:56 of the second period.
Sheehan then scored the Blue Devils' second goal, followed by the game-winner by senior Kraig Kuzma (Muskegon, Mich.), his second goal of the season and the 90th point as a Blue Devil over four seasons, 15th most in school history.
Sheehan made it 4-2 with a empty-net goal on a Blue Devil power play. It was his 14th goal of the season and his 23rd power-play goal over three seasons, fifth-most in program history, and one short of the No 4 spot on the list. He also needs one more point to tie for 16th place on Fredonia State's all-time scoring list. He'll enter a two-game weekend series vs. Morrisville State -- 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall -- with 85 points in 67 games.
Freshman goaltender Pat Street (Annapolis, Md.) improved to 5-5-3 this season in the Fredonia State net.
The loss dropped Utica to 7-5-2 overall. They are ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division III by USCHO.com.
