Devils open with 5-4 win over Buffalo State
BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia State jumped to an early lead ahd held on for a 5-4 season-opening win over Buffalo State in the SUNYAC Challenge at SUNY Brockport.
The Blue Devils held leads of 3-0 and 4-1 before the Bengals roared back with two power-play goals in the second period to pull within one goal.
With his team leading 4-3, sophomore forward Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.) scored on a 4-on-4 attack to put his team back up by two goals with 6:15 left in the third period. The goal turned out to be the game-winner.
Sophomore forward Matt McKeown (Niagara Falls, Ont.) had two goals while senior forward Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) had one goal and two assists to lead the Fredonia State offense. Each player scored on a power play in the first period a mere 17 seconds apart.
Senior defenseman Don Jaeger (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) had a goal and an assist for the Blue Devils.
Each team took 33 shots with Fredonia State freshman goaltender Tyler Owens (Vernon, Conn.) made 29 saves.
The Blue Devils are back in action 4 p.m. Saturday vs. Cortland.
