Cortland topples Buffalo State in SUNYAC Challenge

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Cortland State defeated Buffalo State, 6-4, in their SUNYAC Challenge game Saturday at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

Senior forward Tom Girard (Glens Falls, N.Y.) and freshman forward Patrick Baumann (Centereach, N.Y.) had two goals each for the Red Dragons (1-1-0) while senior goaltender Matt Meacham (Massena, N.Y.) stopped 32 of 36 shots.

Freshman forward Jonathan Pietrangelo (Port Robinson, Ont.) scored twice for the Bengals (1-1-0).

In the Challenge format, the Red Dragons earned five points in two games, while the Bengals earned 4 1/2. The tournament champ will be determined following the 7 p.m. game between Fredonia State (4 points) vs. Brockport State (1 point).
