The Blue Devils (2-1-1) turned aside a furious rally in the final minutes for a 4-3 victory at the Steele Hall Ice Arena. Oye scored 26 seconds into the game, then again at 7:45, his second and third goals of the season. The second gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead following a goal by Utica's Kyle Sibley (Hanson, Mass.) at 4:35. Senior forward Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) and sophomore forward Matt McKeown (Niagara Falls, Ont.) each had one goal and one assist for Fredonia State. Sheehan's goal, his second in two nights, was a short-hander and McKeown's served as the game-winning score. It came on a power play at 8:22 of the second period and pushed the Blue Devils out to a 4-1 lead. The Pioneers (1-1-0) got third-period goals from Bryce Dale (Fresno, Calif.) and Jeff Pappalardi (Delmar), the latter with 1:01 remaining and goaltender Anthony Luckow (Shelby Township, Mich.) on the bench in favor of an extra attacker. Fredonia State sophomore netminder Pat Street (Annapolis, Md.) was injured during the scramble resulting in Pappalardi's goal. Street was helped to the lockerroom after making 38 saves and replaced by junior Kevin Amborski (Bloomfield) for the final minute. The victory avenged a 2-1 overtime loss Friday to the Pioneers. Blue Devils return to action when they open SUNYAC competition next Friday at Brockport.
