Devils look to make up ground in the SUNYAC
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils enter the weekend in something of an unfamiliar position.
The Blue Devils (3-2-1, 0-1-1 SUNYAC) were the rabbit in the SUNYAC standings two of the last three seasons. In 2003-04, they led the conference up until the final game of the regular season. Last year, they finished third overall after leading the standings though the first round of the schedule.
This season after two games, they are tied with Cortland for sixth place in the division. Only Brockport, at 0-2-0 in the division, has a worse record. The Blue Devils can start their trek back up the division standings with the Golden Eagles visit the Steele Hall Ice Friday night.
On Saturday night, Geneseo visits Steele to revisit the rivalry that the two teams have established the past few seasons. The Blue Devils and Blue Knights have met in the SUNYAC playoffs each of the last two seasons and were tied for third in the preseason coaches’ poll. Student pep bands from both schools will perform during the game to add to the festivities.
Both games this weekend will be broadcast locally on WCVF 88.9, and will be webcast by Fredonia Radio Systems at www.fredoniaradio.com. In addition, student-run television station WNYF will telecast both games into Dunkirk-Fredonia households on a public access channel.
The Steele Hall box office will open approximately one hour before the opening face-off, scheduled for 7 p.m. both nights.
