Devils fall to Geneseo, 4-3
GENESEO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell behind early, rallied to tie, but were uanble to recover a second time Saturday in a 4-3 SUNYAC road loss to Geneseo.
The Blue Devils (3-2-1, 1-1-0 SUNYAC) found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first 8:11 of the first period. A goal by Matt McKeown (Niagara Falls, Ont.) cut the deficit in half, and a power-play goal by Pat Capella (Syracuse) at 6:34 of the second period forged a 2-2 tie.
The Ice Knights (3-3-0, 3-1-0 SUNYAC) regained command on second-period goals by Trent Cassan -- his second of the game -- and Dan Brown for a 4-2 lead. Fredonia State answered on a goal by Richard Boyce (Mississaugua, Ont.) at the 16:51 of the second period, but Geneseo hung on the rest of the way.
Fredonia State sophomore Pat Street (Annapolis, Md.) stopped 19 of 19 shots in relief of junior Kevin Amborski (Bloomfield), who yielded all four Geneseo goals. Amborski also was credited with 19 saves. Geneseo's Derek Jokic stopped 42 shots.
The Blue Devils stay in SUNYAC competition when they play host to Potsdam at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a Saturday night visit from Plattsburgh.
