CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and would go on to claim a 6-2 victory at Cortland on Friday.

The Blue Devils (5-3-2, 3-2-1 SUNYAC) drew first blood, with an Andrew Hess (Bowling Green, Ohio) goal at 6:38 into the opening frame. Hess scored on a wrist shot from the right circle with Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C.) and Alex Morton (Cannington, Ont.) assisting.

Oye scored the Devils' second goal at the 13:14 mark, putting the puck in the open side of the net on the left side. Morton earned his second of three assists on the night, giving the Devils a 2-0 lead after the first period.

A half minute into the second period, the Devils' Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.) gave Fredonia State a 3-0 lead with a wrist shot over the Cortland goalie's left shoulder. Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) assisted.

Cortland answered with a pair of goals -- off the sticks of Gereard Heinz and Frank Rizzo -- to pull to within a goal, 3-2, just over 12 minutes into the second.

The Devils' Colin Sarfeh (Laguna Niguel, Calif) added a power play goal with a high wrist shot at 16:08, giving Fredonia State a 4-2 lead at the end of two periods. Morton and Hess would provide the assists.

Sarfeh and Richard Boyce (Mississauga, Ont.) accounted for a pair of Devil scores in the third. Sarfeh scored on a wraparound at the 4:11 mark with help from Boyce and Chris de Bruyn (Calgary, Alberta).

Boyce would knock in a loose puck :43 seconds later, giving the 6-2 final. Pat Capella (Syracuse) assisted.

Pat Street made 18 saves in goal for Fredonia State, upping his record to 5-1-1 in seven starts. Cortland's Mike Mistretta made 17 stops, allowing all six goals.

Fredonia St. outshot Cortland (3-8-1, 2-5-0), 23-20, in the game and went 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Red Dragons went 1-for-5.

The Devils take on defending National Champions Oswego on Saturday, with gametime slated for 7 p.m.
