Neumann no pushover for Blue Devils

ASTON, Pa. -- Fredonia State should know enough not to look past Neumann College when they meet twice this weekend.

Neumann will bring a 5-4 record into Friday's game. Four of those wins have been over SUNYAC teams -- 6-3 and 5-2 over Cortland, and 6-2 and 7-1 over Buffalo State.

Relatively speaking, the Blue Devils (6-3-2) struggled against Cortland and Buffalo State this season. The Blue Devils defeated the Red Dragons, 3-2, in Fredonia, before the teams tied 2-2 at Cortland. In their lone meeting with Buffalo State so far, Fredonia State emerged with a 4-3 overtime victory.

The Blue Devils might choose to ignore their spotless all-time advantage over Neumann. They lead the series, 9-0-0, including 3-1 and 3-2 wins last season at Steele Hall.

Last year, Neumann goaltender Mike Collichio made 73 saves in the two games against the Blue Devils. He has seemingly picked up the pace this season as witnessed by his 62 saves in two games last week. As a result, he was chosen ECAC West Goalie of the Week for the second time this season.

Offensively, the Knights have been led by freshman Jesse Cole, who has eight goals this season, including five on the power-play. He earned his second ECAC West Rookie of the Week award Monday.

On the opposite side, the Blue Devils are coming off a 3-3 tie at Potsdam last Friday, followed by a 4-1 loss at Plattsburgh. They will be looking to make amends vs. Neumann, first Friday at 7 p.m., and then 3 p.m. in the final game of the first semester.
