Devils, Neumann skate to 5-5 tie

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Staked to an early three-goal lead, the Fredonia State Blue Devils still needed a late power-play goal to earn a 5-5 tie with No. 7 ranked Neumann College.

Senior forward Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.) scored his fifth goal of the season with 3:03 remaining on assists from junior forward Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) and junior defenseman Steve Albert (Port Huron, Mich.)

Fredonia State freshman goaltender Pat Street (Annapolis, Md.) preserved the tie with several key stops down the stretch. He finished with 38 saves, including five in overtime.

The two teams meet again 3 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall. Neumann is the No. 7 in the most recent USCHO.com poll.

The Blue Devils stunned the visiting Knights (8-1-4) with three goals early in the first period. Freshman forward Matt McKeown (Niagara Falls, Ont.) scored at 1:37 on a power play. Junior forward Adam Haberman (Novi, Mich.) made it 2-0 at 2:13, and senior forward Scott Bradley (Belleville, Ont.) completed the early onslaught at 6:27 of the first period.

Before the period was over, the Knights countered with two goals, one each by Keleigh Schrock (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Mark Van Vliet (Dorchester, Ont.), the first while shorthanded and the latter on a power play.

The Blue Devils regained a two-goal advantage at 7:45 on a power-play goal by Sheehan, part of his three-point game, before the Knights scored three unanswered goals. Mike Hedden (St. Catherines, Ont.) scored on a power play at 8:28 of the second period, Neil Trimm (Westmeath, Ont.) made it 4-4 at 10:24 of the third, and Schrock gave his team its only lead of the game, 5-4, with his second goal of the night, at 14:10.

Neumann goaltender Mike Collichio (Rochester, N.Y.) was credited with 29 saves.
