Neumann powers past Devils
ASTON, Pa. -- A power-play goal at 5:14 into the third period proved to be the game-winner for Neumann in a 3-2 win over Fredonia State.
The Knights' Mike Hedden netted the winner, assisted by Sean Cryer and Neill Trimm.
After a scoreless first period, Fredonia State took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sean Walker (Wingham, Ont.) at 5:03 of the second period. Don Jaeger (Grosse Point Woods, Mich.) and Kraig Kuzma (Muskegon, Mich.) were credited with assists.
Hedden scored his first goal of the game to even the score at 1-1 before the Blue Devils (6-4-2) regained the lead on a goal by Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.). Evan DiValentino (Burlington, Ont.) earned an assist at 18:19 of the period.
An assisted goal by Neumann's Peter Vaisanen came one minute into the third period and set the stage for Hedden's game-winning tally later in the period. It was the fifth win over a SUNYAC team this season by the Knights (7-4-0) and their first win ever over the Blue Devils after nine previous losses and no previous ties.
Fredonia State goaltender Simon Maignan (Pully, Switz.) made 25 saves while Neumann's Mike Collichio stopped 28 shots. The Knights stymied the Blue Devil power play (0 for 5).
