Oye delivers in overtime
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jordan Oye (Richmond, B.C.) scored one minute into overtime Friday as Fredonia State edged Buffalo State, 2-1, in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Blue Devils (14-8-3, 10-4-2 SUNYAC) peppered the Bengals with 25 shots in the first two periods, but finally opened the scoring on its first of just two third-period shots when Richard Boyce (Mississauga, Ont.) connected on a pass from Bryan Goudy (Port Huron, Mich.) at the 6:45 mark.
The Bengals (10-11-4, 5-7-4 SUNYAC) outshot Fredonia State 19-2 in the period and pulled even with 4:03 remaining when Cody Cole (St. Catharines, Ont.) walked in from the point and wristed a shot to the back of the net. Paul Gagnon (Troy, Mich.) and Johnny Duco (Toronto, Ont.) drew the assists.
Oye ended the game, however, on a one-timer on a two-on-one with assists from Alex Morton (Cannington, Ont.) and Colin Sarfeh (Laguna Niguel, Calif).
The shots were even at 29-29, as Kevin Amborski (Bloomfield) had 28 stops for Fredonia State, and Kyle Gunn-Taylor (West Seneca) made 27 saves for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will open the SUNYAC playoffs on Tuesday as the No. 6 seed at No. 3 Fredonia at 7 p.m.
