Devils drop to No. 5 seed with loss

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Buffalo State earned the right to play host to Fredonia State in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament with a 6-4 win Friday over the Blue Devils at Steele Hall.

Jason Hill (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and D'Arcy Thomas (Gatineau, Que.) had two goals each for the Bengals (12-11-2, 6-7-1 SUNYAC), who nailed down the No. 4 seed with the win. The loss dropped the Blue Devils (12-9-4, 5-7-2 SUNYAC) into the No. 5 seed and set up a Tuesday night rematch at Buffalo State.

Fredonia State led twice and was tied once before Joe Curry (Indian River, Ont.) gave Buffalo State the lead for good, 4-3, at 15:13 of the second period. Fourteen seconds later, Thomas netted his second goal of the game and his 14th of the season.

Colin Sarfeh (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) scored on a Blue Devil power play at 3:52 of the third period to cut the deficit to 6-5. It was Sarfeh's second goal of the game and fifth of the season.

Cody Cole (St. Catherines, Ont.) answered with a Buffalo State 6-on-4 power-play goal at 9:39. The Blue Devils had four subsequent power plays, including their own 6-on-4, but Buffalo State goaltender Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) was equal to the task. He was credited with 21 saves.

Fredonia State's Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) was credited with two assists, his 100th and 101st points as a Blue Devil. In addition, freshman James Muscatello (Baldwinsville) scored his first collegiate goal.

In addition to their goals, Hill had two assists and Thomas one for the Bengals.
