Oswego skates past Devils
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team fell victim to Oswego, 4-1, at Steele Hall on Saturday evening.
The Devils scored first at 4:50 into the game. James Muscatello was assisted by Jeff Sylvester and Jeff Aonso.
Oswego responded with the first of four unanswered goals just over five minutes later. Peter Magagna scored on a power play from Ryan Ellis and Chris Laganiere.
After killing off a 5-on-3 penalty situation, Oswego took the lead -- and added to it -- in a span of 24 seconds during the second period on goals by Matt Whitehead and Francois Gagnon. Brendan McLaughlin wrapped up the scoring at 9:13 of the third period on Oswego's second power play.
Pat Street made 32 saves for the Blue Devils. Oswego's Ryan Scott made 31 stops in the winning effort.
The win allows Oswego (16-5-2, 12-2-1 SUNYAC) to clinch second place in the SUNYAC with one more game to go. The top two seeds earn a first-round bye.
The Devils (13-8-3, 9-4-2 SUNYAC) will finish the regular season in third place. They visit Buffalo State next Friday at 7 p.m. and will then will host a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the SUNYAC quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
