Muli's mini-game goal wins series

FREDONIA, N.Y. – A goal by sophomore Joe Mili (Sioux Lookout, Ont.) in sudden-death overtime lifted Fredonia State over Cortland, 2-1, to decide their SUNYAC Tournament first-round series.

The Blue Devils (16-5-4) travel to Geneseo for semifinals games next Friday and Saturday.

Muli's goal came during the mini-game after Cortland won Game Two of the series, 4-3, earlier in the evening.

Sophomore Matt Zeman (Rocky River, Ohio) made the overtime possible with a dramatic tying goal with 12 seconds left in the mini-game.

The Red Dragons (11-14-2) were poised to win the series until Zeman scored after weaving through the defense and netting the equalizer. The goal was unassisted.

Zeman and freshman Scott Bradley (Belleville, Ont.) assisted on the Muli goal.

Barry McLaughlin (Bellport) scored for Cortland during the mini-game.

In the regulation game, a goal by Tom Girard (Glens Falls) at 17:53 of the third period lifted Cortland to its 4-3 win. Matt Schillace (Auburn) had a pair of goals for the Red Dragons.

Freshman Chad Berman (Kentwood, Mich.), Zeman, and junior Jim Gilbride (Parma, Ohio) had the Fredonia State goals.
