Devils, Hobart play 3-3 tie

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Blue Devils and Hobart Statesmen skated to a 3-3 tie Friday in the second game of the Buffalo State All Sport Invitational. Sophomore Matt Zeman (Rocky River, Ohio) earned the No. 1 star award for the second straight game by assisting on all three Devil goals. He had four goals Thursday in a 6-2 victory over Buffalo State.

On this night, the Fredonia State goals were scored by sophomore Joe Muli (Sioux Lookout, Ont.), sophomore Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.), and junior captain Tom Briggs (Fruitport, Mich.).

Briggs also picked up an assist to join Zeman as the only two Blue Devils (2-1-1) having multiple-point games.

The goaltending duties fell to junior Rick Cazares (San Jose, Cal.). In his second start at Fredonia State, Cazares, a transfer from NCAA Divison I Michigan Tech, stopped 31 shots during regulation and overtime. He received the No. 3 star.

The back-and-forth action saw the Blue Devils hold leads of 2-0 and 3-2 Before Hobart's Williams Brame tallied the game-tying goal at 16:17 of the third period.

Following an overtime period, the teams engaged in a shootout as a tournament-only tiebreaker. The Statesmen (0-0-1) won the tiebreaker on the seventh round of the shootout.

After four straight road games to open the season, the Blue Devils play their home and SUNYAC opener Friday against Geneseo. Game time is 7 p.m.
