Plattsburgh 8, Fredonia State 2

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. Dave Friel had three goals and two teammates had two goals each Saturday as Plattsburgh defeated the Fredonia State Blue Devils, 8-2, in their SUNYAC semifinal series.

The Cardinals (20-4-3) swept the series and moved on to face Oswego for the conference championship next weekend in Plattsburgh.

The loss ended the Blue Devils' season. They were 14-13-3 overall (13-3-3 vs. NCAA competition and 7-10-1 against SUNYAC opponents).

Jim Gilbride (Parma, Ohio) and Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.) had the Fredonia State goals. It was Gilbride's seventh goal of the season and the second in two nights for the sophomore. Bozoian's goal was his 12th, third on the Blue Devils and second among Blue Devil freshmen.

Freshman goaltender Rob Stanley (New York, N.Y.) made 35 saves. Craig Neilson made 20 saves in the Plattsburgh net.

Chad Kemp and Ryan Busby had two goals each for the Cardinals, who have won 16 of the 26 SUNYAC men's hockey titles contested.
