Devils alone atop SUNYAC

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Fredonia State took over sole possession of the SUNYAC lead with a 5-1 victory Saturday over Potsdam, coupled with Geneseo's 7-6 win at Oswego.

Five different players had goals for the Blue Devils (6-1-1, 4-0-0), who had been tied with Oswego at the start of the night.

In addition, Fredonia State avenged its only loss of the season, a 7-4 opening-night setback to the Bears (2-6-0) in the SUNYAC Challenge on Oct. 22.

"It was a great weekend," Fredonia State head coach Jeff Meredith said. "We've got a good group and they are working hard and working together."

Junior Rick Cazares (San Jose, Cal.) stopped 27 of 28 shots in the Fredonia State net. He lost his bid for a shutout with 2:05 left in the game.

The Blue Devils grabbed the lead for keeps on a goal by sophomore Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.) at 9:34 of the first period. Freshman Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) made it 2-0, Fredonia State, later in the period.

The Blue Devils scored two goals in a span of 36 seconds of the second period --- sophomore Joe Muli (Sioux Lookout, Ont.) at 9:37 and junior Steve Greenberg (East Lansing, Mich.) at 9:01.

Freshman Adam Haberman (Novi, Mich.) scored Fredonia State's fifth goal at 19:38 of the second period.

Twelve Blue Devils had at least one point with Sheehan, Haberman, and freshman Chad Berman (Grand Rapids, Mich.) collecting two points each.

The Blue Devils are back in action Nov. 17 at Buffalo State.
