After a scoreless first period, Geneseo drew first blood :31 into the second frame on a Brett Bestwick goal. Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.) tied the game six minutes into the period with his eighth goal of the season. Neal Sheehan (Avon Lake, Ohio) and Joe Muli (Sioux Lookout, Ont.) assisted. Geneseo then took a lead they would not surrender, as Michel Bond connected on a power play goal to make it 2-1. The Blue Knights upped the lead to 3-1 on a Jay Kuczmanski third period goal. Fredonia State's Chad Berman (Grand Rapids, Mich.) netted a power play for the Blue Devils mid-way through the final period to pull within one. Sheehan and Jim Gilbride (Parma, Ohio) assisted. Bond would score his second goal of the game, an empty netter, at the 19:00 mark to preserve the win for Geneseo. Goaltender Rick Cazares (San Jose, Calif.) had 29 saves.
