Devils turn back stubborn Neumann

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Sophomore Kraig Kuzma (Muskegon Shores, Mich.) scored with just over six minutes left as Fredonia State rallied for a 3-2 non-conference victory Friday over Neumann College.

Kuzma faked out a defender and fired a wrist shot into the top, short corner at 13:44 of the period. Sophomore Matt Zeman (Rocky River, Ohio) and freshman Chad Berman (Kentwood, Mich.) picked up assists.

Kuzma's goal completed a comeback which began with the Devils falling behind 2-1 on Neumann power-play goal at 6:30 of the third period.

Zeman answered 13 seconds later, at 6:43, with his 10th goal of the season from freshman Evan DiValentino (Burlington, Ont.) and Kuzma.

Sophomore Scott Bradley (Belleville, Ont.) also scored for the Blue Devils (10-1-1), the No. 8 ranked team in NCAA Division III, from sophomore Kyle Bozoian (St. Charles, Mo.) and Zeman at 13:46 of the second period.

Bradley's goal, his fourth power-play on the power play this season, broke a scoreless tie at 14:46 of the second period. Neumann answered later in the period with a short-handed goal by sophomore Mike Flume (King City, Ont.) at 17:56.

Senior Nate Eber (Syracuse) gave the Knights (0-11-1) a brief 2-1 lead with a power-play goal, only to have Zeman answer right back. His three-point game gives his 25 points this season; he entered the game tied for second in scoring in NCAA D-III.

Sophomore Rob Stanley (New York) was in goal for the winners and Stopped 27 of 29 shots. Neumann freshman goalie Mike Collichio (Rochester) made 33 saves.

The teams meet 3 p.m. Saturday in the Blue Devils' final game of the first semester.
