In the first half, Fredonia State (2-5) took an early 5-1, but Alfred (1-7) managed to score three unanswered goals and close the gap to within one goal at the intermission. In the second half, turnovers proved to be the key, as Alfred turned the ball over 10 times to the Blue Devils’s five. Fredonia State’s Sara Potter (Pittsford/Pittsford Sutherland), Erin Schurr (Hamburg/Hamburg), and Erynn Anderson (Dewitt/C.W. Barker) each scored three goals to lead the team. Alfred was led by seniors Chris Sanford (Bowdoinham, ME/Mt. Ararat) and Kelly Farrell (Meriden,NH/Kimball Union) who each had two goals. Senior midfielder Katie Haarmann (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) was strong on the offensive end, notching one goal and six groundballs for AU. Kelly McLeod (Hamburg/Frontier) earned the win in goal for the Blue Devils, making six saves.
