Devils open with 10-6 win

WELLINGTON, Fla. -- Junior attacker Christie Zaganiaczyk (Lancaster/Lancaster) led the Blue Devils (1-0) with six goals to start the season off with a win against Frostburg State University (0-3), 10-6.

It was the Blue Devils' seventh straight win spanning two seasons, a school record.

After trailing early in the first half 2-0, Zaganiaczyk scored the Blue Devils’ first goal of the season at 17:10. It sparked a 5-1 run over the last 17 minutes of the first half to take a 5-3 halftime lead.

Junior Nicole Van Etten (Endicott/Union-Endicott) had the fifth tally of the game with a remainder of :34 on a free position. The Blue Devils continued to dominate, scoring three quick goals in the second half, which opened an 8-3 lead, the largest of the game.

Erin Schurr (Hamburg/Hamburg), Brittany McDevitt (Mendon/Honeoye Falls-Lima), and Jennifer Haas (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) each tallied one goal in the second half.

Junior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and senior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) led the Bobcats with two goals each. Frostburg’s goalie, Rachel Lewis (Laurel, Md./Wilde Lake) compiled 10 saves while Fredonia State’s goalie Sarah Wright (Rochester/Irondequoit) saved six shots in the win.

Fredonia State will face Clarkson University Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
